Timeline

Below is a timeline of all known events related to Rasterflesh.

08/22/2001: portiascompendium.com posts the first known 'Raster Flesh' story.

05/19/2002: The personal website of "James Holloway" references Rasterflesh in a blog post about creepy stories the site owner enjoys.

11/07/2003: A comment discussing the Raster Flesh legend is made on LiveJournal and screenshotted by other users. This comment expands on multiple elements of his lore includng the idea of 'vessels' (though it was alluded to in the inital portiascompendium post. It is assumed that discussions surrounding Raster Flesh occured on now-deleted forums prior to this comment.

04/10/2004: The first known instance of the Raster Flesh copypasta is sent. We can confirm the authenticity of this email but the user who received it asked to remain anonymous.

03/04/2006: The Raster Flesh sigil is posted on a thread dedicated to modern cryptids on Something Awful.

06/29/2007: Raster Flesh is discovered by users on the /x/ board and the usage of the Rasterflesh copypasta increases exponentionally.

03/01/2008: thetechnoforminstitute.com posts the article 'Quantum Entities and Technological Life' which references Rasterflesh.

04/14/2008: terminalspacepunk makes the first post of the 2008 Rasterflesh ARG on the Esoterica Forum.

04/15/2008: The first video of the Rasterflesh ARG, "proof", is posted, giving us our first look at Rasterflesh.

04/17/2008: A post is made on the Unfiction forums about Rasterflesh.

04/19/2008: Video #2, "conversation", is posted, in whic Flynn talks to Rasterflesh and learns about vessels.

04/22/2008: User "elemenop" joins the thread (potential NPC).

04/25/2008: Video #3, "answering questions", is posted.

04/27/2008: User "danontheweb" (potential NPC) joins the thread and discovers the existence of hidden spectrogram messages in the Rasterflesh videos.

04/30/2008: Video #4, "hell" is posted, showing images of Rasterflesh's home dimension and Flynn falling under his influence temporarily.

05/01/2008: atroposfire/Victoria (confirmed NPC) is introduced to the story via a comment on the Estoteria Forum thread.

05/03/2008: Video #5, "atropos", is posted, showing a conversation between Flynn and Victoria in which they plan to expel Rasterflesh from Flynn's home.

05/05/2008: elemenop and danontheweb post about potentially being infected by Rasterflesh after downloading videos from the ARG.

05/10/2008: Video #6, "restoration 1", is posted, showing Flynn dealing with the first of Rasterflesh's roots with Victoria's instructions on the phone.

05/12/2008: User "1crowley1" discovers thetechnoforminstitute.com

05/14/2008: Video #7, "restoration 2", is posted, showing Flynn leaving the home of his friend Luke to arrive at his infected house. In the video, he performs more advanced rituals on additional roots. He then talks to Victoria on the phone at night afterward and the two grow closer.

05/20/2008: Video #7, "restoration 3", is posted, showing Flynn undergoing immense physical and mental stress to deal with the last root as Rasterflesh attempts to take control of his body once again. Flynn loses control at the end, becoming enraged and almost being overtaken by Rasterflesh. However, with Victoria on the phone, she manages to calm him down. They resolve to delete all Rasterflesh content once Flynn's house is cleared.

05/26/2008: Video #8, "expulsion", is posted for a total of six hours, showing Flynn's final ritual to expel Rasterflesh. Six hours after posting, the Esoterica Forum thread, all videos and the terminalspacepunk YouTube account associated with them, as well as the forum accounts of terminalspacepunk, atroposfire, elemenop, and danontheweb are deleted.

2010 (unknown date): thetechnoforminstitute.com goes offline.

01/19/2011: A new 'Rasterflesh' ARG depicting another person in a similar situation to terminalspacepunk appears to begin on /x/ only to be deleted two days after the inital post.

06/27/2011: The first post by the user 'rasterfleshlives' is made, theorizing that Rasterflesh is real and not an ARG/urban legend (Thanks Eddie).

02/18/2012: portiascompendium.com goes offline.

10/20/2013: rasterflesharchive is created.
